The image of seeing a child look up in the sky for Superman evokes a lot of emotion. The feelings range from excitement to awe. Despite the strong reaction this type of visual makes, it has always been something that has been seen in a work of fiction. Comic books, cartoons, TV, or the movies have presented us with this powerful image. All of this may change in the not-too-distant future.
The Siegel & Shuster Society was established in 2007 to honor the creators of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who both hail from Cleveland, Ohio. Their mission is to celebrate Cleveland as the “Birthplace of Superman” and emphasize the importance of Superman within the community. The society organizes events and activities that highlight this remarkable legacy, including educational forums and gatherings. Notably, they are currently raising funds for the Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster Tribute Plaza, which will feature an 18-foot tall stainless steel statue of Superman and other elements related to the iconic superhero. The plaza aims to tell the story of Superman’s origins and impact, making it a significant addition to Cleveland’s cultural landscape1. If you’re a Superman fan or believe in this vision, consider supporting their efforts!
Currently, the city of Cleveland is the filming location for the much anticipated new Superman film. I can’t imagine a more perfect filming location. In the meantime, the Siegel and Shuster Society are hard at work planning to add a little bit more of the Kryptonian’s legacy to downtown while also paying tribute to his creators. Check out their website and the efforts being made to turn this into a reality. You can even help out by donating.
